WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH STICKERS?
There is
something attractive about stickers. When
we were kids, we loved collecting stickers or getting them out of cereal
boxes. When we were in high-school we
put them all over our binders and jackets to show how much we loved “Aerosmith”. There is something about being able to
personalize our personal property and decorating the space where we work and
play. We have a need to vocalize our
individuality through decorating our space.
WHERE DID THIS START?
I’m one of those sticky-philes who see a big blank space as a canvas for decorating. Modern design is leaning towards large smooth areas like everything is a big Tupperware container. People are wearing blank t-shirts and automobiles are being designed with very few styling effects. When I first bought my computer, I saw that big beige space on the side as a spot to put a really killer sticker. I never found that really well made design or precise logo out there so I put my architectural education to work and created one myself in AutoCad.
WHO WE ARE?
LinusCo
Designs Company is focused on graphical design, precision in layout and
creative thought. We are not a printing
company. We are not a factory. Each decal you purchase has hours
and hours of painstaking work behind it to get the finished product exactly as you
want to see it. A lot of printing
companies use “fuzzy logic” tracers which take a bitmap and find the best line
to create a vector image. This
completely contradicts the medium of vector graphics, which is based on
mathematical precision. It is a slow
and arduous task to get the Bezier curves and intersection points to line up
but I’m sure you’ll agree that the final product is worth the effort.
WHY VINYL?
Vinyl
stickers are, in my mind, an artistic medium.
Much like screen-printing, it is based on large flat color surfaces and
precise lines. Indigenous art such as
those of the Celts in Ireland, the Aztecs, the west coast Indians and the
ancient Egyptians are excellent examples of how powerful flat colors can
be. Even many corporate logos use the
this power as they are predominately flat colors organized in varying smooth
curves, lines, and broad areas.
I
hope you find a place to put a sticker to make that little corner of this earth
a little more yours.
